I see her as she stands at the corner
With no place to call her home
Millions of people surround her
Why is it she looks so alone
And as I draw nearer
She looks up at me
Her eyes tell her story
And I see
The pain of a thousand hearts breaking
The loneliness of the stars in the sky
The tears of a million angels
Whenever she looks me in the eyes
As I walk past the bus stop
I spot him near a tree
Trying to hide his bruises
Afraid to look at me
Who’s child is this
So hurt so alone?
Though his tears go unnoticed
The pain in eyes I know
And I see
The fear of a thousand nations
The cry of dreams that can’t to fly
The hurt of a spirit that’s broken
Whenever he looks me in the eyes
No one must see the pain underneath
Because no one can stop the hurt
No one could stop what was done to them
Can anyone see past the dirt?
Younger then others,
Older then time,
Their eyes tell a story
As they lift and reach mine
Can you see?
The pain of a thousand hearts breaking
The loneliness of the stars in the sky
The tears of a million angels
Whenever they look you in the eyes
The fear of a thousand nations
The cry of dreams that can’t fly
The hurt of a spirit that’s broken
Whenever they look you in the eyes
With no place to call her home
Millions of people surround her
Why is it she looks so alone
And as I draw nearer
She looks up at me
Her eyes tell her story
And I see
The pain of a thousand hearts breaking
The loneliness of the stars in the sky
The tears of a million angels
Whenever she looks me in the eyes
As I walk past the bus stop

Trying to hide his bruises
Afraid to look at me
Who’s child is this
So hurt so alone?
Though his tears go unnoticed
The pain in eyes I know
And I see
The fear of a thousand nations
The cry of dreams that can’t to fly
The hurt of a spirit that’s broken
Whenever he looks me in the eyes
No one must see the pain underneath

Just a poem I wrote today. The idea has been kind of roaming throughout my head for a while, and I finally got a chance to write it down. Let me know what you think. It's dedicated to the children I see everyday, in my neighborhood, at the train station, the bus stop, the schoolhouse, and everywhere else. I'm sure you've seen them too. I hope this poem will touch you enough so that the next time you do, you'll not only look inside their eyes, but see within their hearts.

What a great poem, as always! How touching...
Very good, Sarah! You really put emotion into it. It's sad that that is real life to many children and adults. I tend to think of it often(even though we don't really live in a place where you see that all the time) and it reminds me of how selfish we sometimes are! We take for granted everything we have(books, parents, siblings, electricity, houses, God, church, clothes, friends), until we see people under bridges with nothing but the shirt they're wearing(if that)! Thanks for reminding us about these people!
How beautiful! ANd I love your header as well as your playlist.
thanks girls! but praise God not me. he gave me the words...i just wrote them down :)
