Teach Me To Fly

Another poem I thought up a while ago:

It's when the mountains look enormously high
And the storm clouds block out all trace of the sky
It's when the waters start to flood in
That I suddenly know who my God is
It's when I'm falling straight down that I'm
Given wings and taught how to fly

The post that was long overdue......

Yeah, I know, I should have had these up the day after, but instead I'm posting 3 weeks after the event! I tried to post this several times but this little thing called LIFE kept changing my agenda :) So here we go....finally!

Here Ye! Here Ye! I am now an older sister to 2 grade school graduates!!!! Here are the pictures along with a funny vid that I took a while ago and have been just DYING to put up here :)

After seeing my sisters pass such a wonderful life marker I couldn't stop thinking about how truly short life is! We live like we have all the time in the world, but really we barely have any time at all! Last week we attened the funeral of my dad's aunt. They had some wonderful pictures up, some from when she was very young, back in Ireland, some when she was a young woman, and then a mother and grandmother. You don't think how much time you spent, until it's gone and all you have to show for it are memories, sometimes a few pictures, a snapshot of 1 piece of your life, forever frozen on paper, but unable to ever be lived or felt again.

We were at my grandparents house, and they gave us a few old pictures. This was one of them.

At first it was just so cool to see our grandparents young, our great grandparents and even our great, great grandmother! But after studying this picture again, I suddenly felt very sad. Why? Because almost everyone in this picture (with the exception of my grandfather- the one with glasses- and the 2 little kids) has died. And the ones who haven't, are no longer young and carefree. It makes you see life in a whole new perspective. One day we're young, and then, somehow, only a couple years later, we're not.

Another thing is that, whether we know it or not, we are ALL going to leave a legacy behind. Everyone of us. But now what is that legacy going to look like? I was thinking about this one day and scribbled this little poem on a sheet of paper that happened to sit nearby. Comment on it if you want, but more then that, I hope it makes you think, good and hard about your own life. You aren't going to have it forever. And someday you'll be called to take account for everything you've ever done, said or thought. Think about that when you read this.

Another day has passed away,

Another hour is no more

Soon tomorrow will be yesturday

As you pass through another door

So many mornings already met,

So many sunsets already left,

Never again will this moment pass

It's gone forever,

It will never come back

Each hour is special

Each day unique

It's a new chance to follow

A new chance to lead

Treasure it always and never forget

God gave you this gift

Don't make Him regret!

Forever and Always,

-Sarah

Poem to Praise

I wish I had a writer's hand
A singer's song
A dancer's dance
I wish that I had even one of these things
To serve my Lord, my God, my King

But I tried to lead worship
And found I can't keep on tune
I tried to do lights
But instead I blew a fuse
I can't preach a sermon
For a stutter and shake
And when I try dancing
People yell, "Stop for goodness' sake!"

So why did you save me?
If I can only bring you shame?
I could never bring glory to your wonderful name

But still you came in
To my small longing heart
You, the satisfaction
The One whom I sought
You took me and you loved me
And you blessed me under your name
And for that I WILL find a way to praise you night and day.

I wrote this poem when I was thirteen or fourteen and I found it recently. It isn't Shakesphere, but I thought maybe someone else might be feeling the way I did back then, and the way I sometimes feel now. I make so many mistakes day after day after day after day (etc.) that sometimes I wonder just WHY God choose me to be one of his children. Maybe you feel that way right now. If you do then here's something to remember. God choose you and God Never Makes Mistakes. So praise Him, despite what others say or think. You're not alone.
Blessings and thumbs up from Chicago :)

Forever and Always,

Whenever they look me in the eyes

I see her as she stands at the corner
With no place to call her home
Millions of people surround her
Why is it she looks so alone
And as I draw nearer
She looks up at me
Her eyes tell her story
And I see
The pain of a thousand hearts breaking
The loneliness of the stars in the sky
The tears of a million angels
Whenever she looks me in the eyes
As I walk past the bus stop
I spot him near a tree
Trying to hide his bruises
Afraid to look at me
Who’s child is this
So hurt so alone?
Though his tears go unnoticed
The pain in eyes I know
And I see
The fear of a thousand nations
The cry of dreams that can’t to fly
The hurt of a spirit that’s broken
Whenever he looks me in the eyes
No one must see the pain underneath
Because no one can stop the hurt
No one could stop what was done to them
Can anyone see past the dirt?
Younger then others,
Older then time,
Their eyes tell a story
As they lift and reach mine
Can you see?
The pain of a thousand hearts breaking
The loneliness of the stars in the sky
The tears of a million angels
Whenever they look you in the eyes
The fear of a thousand nations
The cry of dreams that can’t fly
The hurt of a spirit that’s broken
Whenever they look you in the eyes
....................................................................
Just a poem I wrote today. The idea has been kind of roaming throughout my head for a while, and I finally got a chance to write it down. Let me know what you think. It's dedicated to the children I see everyday, in my neighborhood, at the train station, the bus stop, the schoolhouse, and everywhere else. I'm sure you've seen them too. I hope this poem will touch you enough so that the next time you do, you'll not only look inside their eyes, but see within their hearts.

Goodbye

Today my Tia Reyna left. Here's a poem I wrote:

Goodbye
Sitting beside eachother,
Smiles and jokes
Trying to drown that lump in their throats.
It won't be long now before tears start to fly
It won't be long now before they say goodbye
While they sit there and wait
The remember a time
When they were both young still in their prime
The protection of the older
Unwilling to cry
The smiles of the other
When they didn't have to say goodbye
Now it is time
They hug and they kiss
They say "See you soon"
But they don't say farewell
For Christ binds sisters closer then life
And with Him as the end
They'll never have to say....
Goodbye

-Sarah Heidkerueger

My mom and her sisters didn't have it easy as kids. When they were preteens they were sent to Mexico to take care of their grandmother who was an irresponsible, bitter old woman. There were times when she would leave them for days with very little food. My Tia Reyna became their mother and had to care for them around the age of 13 in a strange country where they could barely speak let alone write or read a word in the language.
Thank God nothing bad happened to them while they were there. And because of that, they became very close and have remained close to this day. In fact, it was my Tia Reyna who lead my mom to the Lord. And because of her, eventually my mom's entire family became Christians.
It's always hard to say goodbye. Especially when your family. But with Heaven at the end of the road, we can have that assurance that no matter what, we'll see eachother again someday.
It's even like that with those of you one blogger whom I have never met in person before. We may never see eachother face to face in this world, but because we are sisters in the Lord, we can know that someday we will. That's definately something I'm looking forward to!
